Rafael Viñoly Architects PC is a critically acclaimed international practice with headquarters in New York and London and site offices throughout the U.S. and abroad. Founded in 1982, the firm provides comprehensive services in building design, urban planning and interior design for new facilities and renovations. It has successfully completed fast track and design/build projects, as well as conventionally scheduled and organized assignments. The firm limits its workload in order to ensure that all projects receive the individual attention of Mr. Viñoly, who personally designs every assignment, and Mr. Bargmann, who administers the major projects and oversees the entire operation. This guarantees the office’s consistency and high standards of design and documentation.
The firm’s diversified work includes courthouses; museums; performing arts centers; convention centers; athletic facilities; banks; hotels; commercial, industrial and educational facilities; laboratories; and recreational and residential commissions. Projects range in scale from interior design for corporate offices, high-rise towers and retail stores to urban design and master planning for commercial and waterfront developments. The firm has also completed several projects involving the restoration and expansion of large-scale buildings of significant historical and architectural value.
The staff consists of more than 170 design professionals including architects, structural engineers, interior designers, computer visualization specialists, model makers, artists and fabricators.
Over the years the firm has developed a production method that depends on the clear designation of design teams. Jointly administered by one of the firm’s seven directors and Mr. Bargmann, each design team is designated at the start of a project and includes consultants from all technical disciplines, architects, and client representatives. This team approach, and our insistence on its continuity for the duration of a project, facilitates the integration of technical, economic and management expertise into the planning and design of each project while ensuring fidelity to the design concepts through construction.
