Marketing Director

Position: Marketing Director

Department: Marketing

Reports to: Associate Vice President of Marketing

Summary: The Marketing Director oversees the critical elements of marketing operations and sales at The Philadelphia Orchestra. This position ensures the tactical marketing plan is carried out to promote the growth of subscription and single ticket revenue, expand our audience base, and promote high levels of audience satisfaction. This position will be responsible for successful execution of marketing tactics, budget management, reporting and administrative duties and for the timely execution and campaign results that successfully grow patron engagement and retention along with ticket revenues.

Essential Functions:

Works with the Associate Vice President to manage events (including the Digital Stage) throughout the season in collaboration with IT, Development, Ticketing Services, and Campus Experience Staff.

Audience Development:

• Prospective and collaborative oversight of membership initiatives and programs through shared patron relationship management.

• Brand oversight

• In collaboration with the AVP, create and manage the department operating budget, including oversight of vendors and contractors

• Work closely with web team to strategize website development in an ongoing, agile, and sprint-oriented environment to increase engagement, eliminate friction, and to increase earned and contributed revenue

• Strategically manage patron data toward growing audience response and attendance

• Tourism outreach marketing support

Strategy:

• Work closely with advertising agency to negotiate and monitor all print, broadcast, outdoor, and online advertising

• Oversight of campaign calendars and creative development of direct mail, online ads, email marketing and created segmentation strategies

• Work closely with marketing associates and group sales to direct event planning, customer service, and membership growth strategies for young professional and student organizations

• Direct strategic audience development partnerships with leading Philadelphia institutions

• Social media strategy + data analysis, as needed

• Directs special promotional activities and programs such as the Philadelphia Orchestra Webstore and special ticketing needs

• In conjunction with ticketing services, plan and implement season subscription renewal and acquisition campaigns.

• Works with Marketing Data Analyst to help organize data and reporting on subscription and ticket sales, patron demographics, and levels of patron engagement

• Supports various subscription and single ticket marketing efforts through direct mail, out of home, and telemarketing campaigns

• Leads, in partnership with the Associate Vice President, the revenue and expense budgeting process for POA marketing

• Attends concerts to observe the patron experience and discover friction points along with engagement opportunities

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 5 years of arts marketing and live event experience is required. Direct experience with a symphony orchestra and/or performing arts presenter, as well as working knowledge of classical music is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge and understanding of advertising and marketing disciplines

• Knowledge of and experience in orchestra industry and performing arts field.

• Proven success in creating and implementing customer loyalty programs

• Knowledge of marketing systems, ticketing, and subscription-based sales.

• Tessitura experience is preferred.

• Excellent organizational skills and efficient time management.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present effectively internally and externally.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Routine for office environment. The employee may be required to perform the essential functions of the job during evening or weekend hours.
