PHILADELPHIA NATIVE INDIE ARTIST GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV PERFORMS AT VERIZON HALL, JOINED BY THE PHILADELPHIA YOUTH ORCHESTRA, JUNE 19, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, May 23, 2016) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts welcomes indie folk artist Gregory Alan Isakov, accompanied by the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, to Verizon Hall on Sunday, June 19 at 8:00 p.m. Born in South Africa and raised in Philadelphia, Isakov is known for his unique and gritty style and a sound reminiscent of both Woody Guthrie and Iron and Wine. Promoting his upcoming album release, “Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony” (available June 10), Isakov will be joined by another Philadelphia-native – the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra – for this one-night-only event.

“Gregory Alan Isakov began creating an incredible body of work at a very young age and this program adds another level of depth to his portfolio,” said Ed Cambron, Executive Vice President of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We are excited to welcome this talented artist back home to Philadelphia and for the wonderful impact this experience will have on the members of our own Philadelphia Youth Orchestra.”

Isakov moved to the United States at a very young age and spent the majority of his childhood growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where his family still lives nearby.  He got an early start in the music industry touring with a band when he was only 16. Later in his career, Isakov moved to Colorado and started producing solo material. Isakov draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists including acclaimed folk artist Leonard Cohen, and heartland rock sensation Bruce Springsteen.

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra is the tri-state region’s premier youth orchestra organization for gifted, young, classical musicians and one of the oldest and most highly regarded youth orchestra organizations in the United States. For over 74 years, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra organization has been providing professional-caliber musical experiences to young instrumentalists, thrilling audiences in the Greater Philadelphia region and across the globe.
