MICHAEL MCDONALD BRINGS NEW ALBUM AND GREATEST HITS

TO PHILADELPHIA WITH SPECIAL GUEST MARC COHN

Nationwide tour debuts Wide Open on October 27

in Kimmel Center’s Merriam Theater

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, August 31, 2017) –– With his distinct and soulful sound, five-time Grammy Award winner Michael McDonald brings his new album and greatest hits to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, along with special guest Marc Cohn. Wide Open is his first new studio album since 2008 and his first original material in more than 17 years.

The album features the single “Find It In Your Heart,” which will leave fans feeling reminiscent of the musician’s days with The Doobie Brothers. Wide Open successfully evolves the vibes and sound of the 70s into the modern era, made possible by an all-star band and McDonald’s 40 years of jazz, soul, and smooth rock expertise. This event will take place at the Merriam Theater on Friday, October 27 at 8:00 p.m. and is presented in association with BRE Presents.

“We are very excited to host one of the most popular artists of the 70s here at the Kimmel Center,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “From Steely Dan to The Doobie Brothers, and now to his career as a solo artist, it is sure to be an entertaining night of McDonald’s distinctive blend of soul and smooth rock. It all pairs perfectly with Grammy Award winner and special guest, Marc Cohn.”

Michael McDonald’s music career began in the 1970s when he became a guest vocalist for Steely Dan. In the same year, he joined The Doobie Brothers where he would go on to record hits such as “It Keeps You Runnin’,” “Takin’ It to the Streets,” and “What a Fool Believes.” McDonald was largely responsible for evolving the group’s boogie rock sound into a combination of jazz and soul. After multiple award-winning songs with The Doobie Brothers, McDonald moved on to a solo career which is highlighted by his collaborative work with a wide range of artists. As a five-time Grammy Award winner, he remains an active singer-songwriter and industry professional, but he recently co-founded a record label and is touring alongside other artists.

Joining Michael McDonald at the Kimmel Center is Marc Cohn, another artist with a distinctive, soulful croon. He is best known for his Grammy Award-winning hit, “Walking in Memphis,” and has worked with notable artists such as James Taylor, David Crosby, Graham Nash, and Patty Griffin. Cohn’s most recent albums include Careful What You Dream: Lost Songs and Rarities as well as the bonus album Evolution of a Record.

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Campus include: King Crimson (November 2-3, 2017, Merriam Theater), The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s 14th Annual Christmas Rocks! Tour (November 17, 2017, Academy of Music), and Nick Offerman: Full Bush (November 4, 2017, Merriam Theater).
