 EARTHA KITT TRIBUTE ALBUM AT KIMMEL CENTER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, December 17, 2015) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts presents singer, actress, and writer René Marie performing her Grammy® nominated album

 I Wanna Be Evil (with Love to Eartha Kitt) at the Perelman Theater on Saturday, January 30 at 8:00 p.m. The renowned jazz diva will showcase her incredible vocal range and powerful emotional to pay a clever tribute to the legendary Eartha Kitt. This album, Marie’s 10th career album, is the first ever tribute album to Kitt who Marie said “is one of America’s strongest iconic figures. She unabashedly shared her sensual self and her fierce self and was just herself – simply Eartha.”

“No one is more perfectly suited to pay tribute to the legendary Eartha Kitt than the audacious René Marie,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “From the first note to the last, René proves herself as a true master of jazz. The impact of Eartha, her life and music, is evident in every song.”

René Marie has been recognized as one of the most interesting and compelling artists of her time. Her style incorporates a distinctly American blend of jazz, soul, blues, folk, and gospel.  From the start,René has always believed that success means shining attention on important issues in America and on bold artists like Eartha Kitt who have helped better America’s landscape.

Other upcoming shows on the Kimmel Center’s Jazz Season include the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia (December 19), Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli (February 26), and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (May 15).
