WRITER/PERFORMER RYAN RAFTERY BRINGS HILARIOUS ANNA WINTOUR-INSPIRED SHOW TO KIMMEL CENTER AFTER SOLD-OUT RUN AT NEW YORK’S FAMED JOE’S PUB THEATER, FEBRUARY 9–11, 2017
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, December 22, 2016) –– Writer and entertainer Ryan Raftery makes his Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts debut in Ryan Raftery is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion – The Anna Wintour Musical, February 9– 11, 2017, at the SEI Innovation Studio. This one-man musical tells the story of Vogue editor and media powerhouse Anna Wintour through popular music and an astounding measure of creative license.
Raftery had the idea for a Wintour-themed work in 2014 as he saw her walking in midtown, noticing that “she’s a mix of Darth Vader and Hillary Clinton in one little package." The show, which centers around the fateful day Kim Kardashian and Kayne West appeared on the cover of Wintour’s magazine, features original songs including “Drunk in Vogue,” “The Impossible Dream,” and “Let Me Go.”
“Ryan Raftery has become renowned for his ability to channel some of society’s most well-known personalities, giving them a new dimension through his singular sense of humor,” said Anne Ewers, President & CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We can’t wait to see the iconic Anna Wintour in a new light in Ryan’s Kimmel Center debut!”
Ryan Raftery, creator and star of hit musicals based on Anna Wintour (Ryan Raftery is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion) and Andy Cohen (Ryan Raftery’s Watch What Happens – Live on Stage!), has written seven shows that have played all over New York City and across the country. He has been featured in Entertainment Weekly, New York magazine and most recently in this past August’s People magazine, sharing a page with none other than Idris Elba! He has appeared on television in Ugly Betty, What I Like About You, Malcolm in the Middle and – most notably – on Law & Order: SVU where he warmed hearts all over America as “Dennis Faber,” the lovable Amish teenager with measles. Ryan is currently writing his Martha Stewart musical, Ryan Raftery's The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of Martha Stewart.
This is a designated BYO performance, a new feature at select performances in the SEI Innovation Studio. Acceptable forms of BYO are 6-pack of beer and/or 750ml bottles of wine only; no liquor or open containers are permitted. Limit of one (1) 750ml bottle of wine OR one (1) six-pack of beer per two patrons. Corkscrews and rolling coolers are not permitted. Ice, cups and corking service available at venue at no cost. All BYO Night patrons are subject to lawful ID checks and bag checks at the manager’s discretion.
Other upcoming performances on the Kimmel Center Campus include Martha Graham Cracker: Lashed but Not Leashed (March 16–17, 2017, SEI Innovation Studio), Spend the Night with Billy Crystal (March 20–21, 2017, Verizon Hall), and Hedwig & The Angry Inch (April 18–23, 2017, Forrest Theatre)
