MERRIAM THEATER WELCOMES EMMY® AWARD-WINNING CHOREOGRAPHER TRAVIS WALL AND HIS DANCE COMPANY SHAPING SOUND FOR BRAND NEW CONTEMPORARY DANCE SHOW AFTER THE CURTAIN, MARCH 7, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, January 24, 2017) –– America’s hottest contemporary dance company, Shaping Sound, will perform a groundbreaking new show titled After The Curtain at the Kimmel Center’s Merriam Theater, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at, 8:00 p.m. Founded in 2012 by Emmy Award winning choreographer Travis Wall, known for his work on shows including So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars, the company is a collaboration of diverse artists who describe themselves as ‘visual musicians’ – their dance gives shape and form to sound. This thrilling new show showcases a story told through movement about a man fighting to find his creative voice after the death of his one true love.

“Travis Wall has danced his way into our hearts over the course of his incredibly successful career, appearing in and choreographing award-winning pieces for hit shows,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We cannot wait to watch his ‘visual musicians’ in action – sharing this incredible story solely through movement.”

After The Curtain is the second show for the eclectic dance company, following on the heels of the spell-binding Dance Reimagined which toured North America for four years. Conceived and choreographed by Travis Wall, the heart-wrenching, breathtaking, and ultimately uplifting show is one that audiences will remember forever. Travis Wall will be dancing in the show throughout the tour schedule, and he will be joined in various cities by his Shaping Sound co-founders Kyle Robinson and Nick Lazzarini.

Shaping Sound was founded in Los Angeles in 2012 by Travis Wall, Nick Lazzarini, Teddy Forance, and dance visionary Kyle Robinson. The four young dancers broke into public awareness with the debut of their reality television series All The Right Moves on the Oxygen channel, which followed them in their quest to launch the dance company. Since that time they have been showcased on all of America’s popular prime time dance, awards, entertainment, and music shows, including: So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, Glee and The 2013 Prime Time Emmy Awards. They were featured in Carrie Underwood’s Grammy Award-winning music video “Something in the Water,” and they are frequent guests on The Ellen Show. The company’s vision is to transform contemporary dance into a mainstream form of entertainment through unique blends of jazz, modern, and hip-hop choreography that help provide audiences with both access to and an understanding of contemporary dance.

Travis Wall, Artistic Director, is the winner of the 2015 Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. He was the runner-up for the Fox reality show So You Think You Can Dance Season 2 and is currently a resident choreographer for the national dance competition show. He is a five-time Emmy nominated choreographer for his work on So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars. He choreographed the music video for Carrie Underwood's "Something In The Water," which won the CMT Video of the Year, as well as stage shows for Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato. Additional TV credits include choreographing the 82nd Academy Awards, Disneyland's 60th Anniversary Special on ABC, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, and an episode of Pretty Little Liars featuring Maddie Ziegler. He had the privilege of working with First Lady Michelle Obama on her Let's Move Campaign where he created the GimmeFive routine that was performed on Ellen and at The White House. Travis teaches with NUVO Dance Convention. @TravisWall.
