In every show, there is a standout song that gets your heart racing and skin tingling as you remember just how magical musical theater can be. With the opening night of our 2019-20 Broadway Philadelphia season fast approaching, we’ve compiled a list of songs to do just that and get you ready for another incredible year of performances. 1. “La Vie Bohème” — RENT
To kick off, we have a musical theater classic that always has us singing and dancing along. An ode to Bohemianism and counter-culture, this tune gets you passionate and excited about everything you love!


2. “Welcome to the Rock” — Come From Away
The opening number of the show, this lively song literally welcomes you to the small Canadian town of Gander and prepares you for the adventure ahead. A moving performance with powerful vocals, instrumentals, and choreography—this is your next favorite Broadway jam.


3. “ (Just a) Simple Sponge” — The SpongeBob Musical
Many of us can relate to SpongeBob in his quest to prove that he is so much more than a “simple sponge.” A fun and motivational tune, this power anthem reminds us all to believe in ourselves and remember that we can reach for the stars.


4. “Revenge Party” — Mean Girls
A plot-driven, comedic musical number, this song immediately gets you invested in the stories of all the iconic Mean Girls characters. You’ll find yourself laughing along as the characters take you with them through the woes of high school life, from friend drama to boy trouble.


5. “Overture” — The Band’s Visit
“Once, not long ago, a group of musicians came to Israel from Egypt. You probably didn't hear about it. It wasn't very important…” In a musical where ‘band’ is in the title, it is the first notes of the band playing that excite you more than anything. The opening notes of “Overture” propel you to the land of Israel and prepare you for the enriching story.


6. “Reel Around the Sun” — Riverdance
Another opening number, this classic Celtic tune immediately transports you to a mystical land of green pastures, folklore, and wondrous beauty of the charming countryside of Ireland. This powerful dance number excites you for the alluring story about to be told.

8. “Do You Hear The People Sing?” — Les Misérables
As the most beloved and well-known song in Les Misérables, this revolutionary anthem motivates you to take a stand. The lyrics call you to overcome any adversity you may be facing, and act as a constant reminder of the power a group coming together can hold.


9. “What’s The Buzz?” — Jesus Christ Superstar
This upbeat jam from the iconic rock opera is bound to make you excited to learn ‘what the buzz’ is all about. The rock and roll tune features an amazing beat that is bound to get you energized.


10. “Waving Through A Window” — Dear Evan Hansen
Dear Evan Hansen’s emotionally-charged number is a beautiful song with lyrics we can all relate to. Evan is a character who struggles with fitting in, and this powerful solo is special to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider and acts as a reminder that you are not alone.


11. “Bad Idea” — Waitress
As a key point in Waitress, there is no better song than “Bad Idea” to get your hands clapping and a smile spreading across your face. A high-energy, fabulous duet, this final song of the first act is sweet as pie.


12. “Hot Stuff” —SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical
One of Donna Summer’s most iconic songs, this disco jam is the perfect bop to get you dancing and singing along. Listening to this catchy tune takes you right to the 70’s era of disco and glam.


13. “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere” — Escape to Margaritaviile
Jimmy Buffett’s beloved ode to relaxation, this song is a reminder to take it easy and enjoy life’s little moments. While listening, you will immediately find yourself whisked away on vacation and sitting on a beautiful island with a margarita in hand.
