Dancing The Night Away: Celebrating 60 Years of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

Posted by:  Kimmel Center on March 08, 2019

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s celebrated their most recent engagement at the Academy of Music with a VIP reception in the Ballroom after an incredible opening night on March 1, 2019. Invited guests included Ailey company dancers, supporters, local influencers, sponsors, friends, and even family. People danced the night away with a DJ, specialty cocktails, and a lite buffet by Garces Events in celebration of the company’s 60th Anniversary.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of America’s most renowned and critically-acclaimed dance companies, known for celebrating the unique beauty and heritage of African-American culture. In its 60 year history, the troupe has performed for an estimated 25 million people at theaters in 48 states and 71 countries on six continents – as well as millions more through television broadcasts, film screenings, and online platforms.

This year’s repertoire included the Philadelphia premiere of Lazarus, the company’s first two-act ballet, choreographed by Philadelphia’s own Rennie Harris, as well as beloved classics including Ailey’s seminal work and American classic, Revelations.
