Hope Boykin Led a Masterclass Dance for University of The Art

Posted by:  Kimmel Center on February 04, 2017

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater dancer and choreographer Hope Boykin led a masterclass for junior and senior dance students at the University of the Arts on Thursday afternoon, part of our ongoing partnership.

This masterclass was a prelude to Alvin Ailey’s upcoming performances at our Merriam Theater and delved into classics like Revelations. The tour features premieres of new works, including Ms. Boykin’s r-Evolution, Dream.

We wanted to know what teaching a class like this meant to Ms. Boykin:

“Being a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and being able to travel around the world, and especially come back to a place that I feel like is another home for me, and coming back to University of the Arts because I was an adjunct professor here when I was at PHILADANCO…teaching these students who know that this is something that they want to do is life changing. And if I don’t do anything else today, this was the most important thing.”
