Philly Date Night at the Theater

Posted by:  Kimmel Cultural Campus on February 01, 2022

Philadelphia is a city filled with arts & culture, which can make planning a date night out a bit…overwhelming. But never fret! At the Kimmel Cultural Campus, we have the perfect entertainment options for a date of any kind, whether it be with your parents, a special someone, the kids, your best friends, or even just with yourself!  Let us guide you to just what you need for the perfect date night out in Philly.

Looking to really impress a special someone? Why not take them to one of the award-winning shows on our Broadway season! Upcoming shows like Hadestown, Oklahoma, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Dear Evan Hansen will be not only an incredible time, but a great conversation starter when grabbing a post-show dessert or drink!

Interested in something a bit more classical? As the home of the esteemed Philadelphia Orchestra, a performance in Verizon Hall gives you a stunning backdrop for inspiring music, like the Orchestra's Grammy-nominated concert of Florence Price’s Symphonies No 1 & 3.

Or see small ensembles in a more intimate setting at our Perelman Theater, with acts from Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, or up-and-coming artists from The Curtis Institute of Music.

Feeling more of a jazz vibe at the moment? Whether it be big band, smooth vocals, or inspiring trumpet, the Kimmel Cultural Campus can be a one-stop shop for all types of jazz. Sit back and relax with trumpetist Arnetta Johnson, be captivated by a big band at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis or experience a brass ensemble at Canadian Brass with Organist Jeffrey Brillhart.

Every date should be filled with laughter, and you know a trip to a comedy show at the theater will deliver with full-on hilarity. See beloved comedians like Whitney Cummings, Hannah Gadsby, Fran Lebowitz, and Lewis Black across our Campus all season long. We guarantee you’ll leave them with a smile on your face.

Need a night out with the kids, or maybe your nieces or nephews? Give them an experience they will never forget with their favorite characters from the screen on stage with shows like the Disney Princess – The Concert and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood LIVE.

Do you and your friends love to swap podcast recommendations? Then a night out to see your favorite speakers, writers, and more is just what you need. Coming up this season we have Neil Gaiman, author of Good Omens and Sandman, andworld-renowned physicist,Professor Brian Cox, both ready to expand your mind with story and science!

Are you part of a spontaneous group who may also be on a budget? Look no further than our Community Rush page to get last minute ticket options at the lowest prices! Rush tickets become available on a weekly basis with new shows added every Monday on our website (kimmelculturalcampus.org).

Maybe you are not the best decision maker and have no idea what show your loved one(s) wants to see. We totally get it, and we are here to help make it as simple as possible. Grab a Gift Certificate as a guarantee for a future date, and let someone else decide.

Finally, no date night at the theater is complete without a meal. Add a dinner reservation at Volvér (located on the Kimmel Cultural Campus) to any tickets to sample the gourmet French cuisine by Chef Jose Garces or fare from one of the current Chefs-In-Residency, or stop by for drinks before an evening performance.
