A street festival down Broad acted as the grand finale of Women 100, celebrating women’s diversity and leadership through history
The Kimmel Cultural Campus joined its partners at Vision 2020 on Thursday, August 26 (Women’s Equality Day) to “Toast to Tenacity”, with a toast and street festival entitled “City of Sisterly Love Celebration”, marking the grand finale of the Women 100 event series. A national coalition formed of organizations and individuals across the country, Vision 2020 is administered by Drexel University’s Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership. The event took over the Kimmel Cultural Campus section of Broad (Locust to Spruce Street) and presented an afternoon of live programming including speeches, music, food, swag items, and tours of the A Seat At The Table exhibition in the Kimmel Center’s Commonwealth Plaza.
We’ve had the pleasure of hosting Vision 2020’s exhibition A Seat at the Table in our Plaza since January 2020. The award-winning interactive exhibit designed by Dome tells what it took for women to win voting rights and how gender inequality persists. A digital display also showcases the stories of past and present trailblazers in six categories: Agents of Change, Politics & Government, Business & Finance, STEM, Communications & Media, and Sports. Though sidelined due to COVID-19 as our building closed to the public and our theaters remained dark for 18 months, the exhibition will reopen to the public at our official Campus reopening (Arts Launch 2021) on Saturday, September 18.
See below for photos from the street fair event held across Broad Street, and A Seat At The Table exhibition, on view for free in our Commonwealth Plaza through March 2022.
