Lunchtime Unplugged at the Kimmel (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
Pack a lunch and picnic in the Plaza! Take a beat and savor in a diverse lineup of live performances by emerging Philly artists.
The Oliver Mayman Trio will explore the vast repertoire of the Great American Songbook through swinging arrangements and nods to the rich tradition of piano trios in jazz, as interpreted on the vibraphone. Some of Mayman's own compositional work will also be featured. Pack a lunch, grab a friend and meet us in the Plaza!
From Ann Arbor, MI, and now based in Philadelphia, Oliver Mayman is a vibraphonist, composer, and educator. Beginning on the drums and piano, the vibraphone was an inevitable discovery as a teenager – the instrument essentially fusing the mechanics of drumming with the harmonic capabilities of the piano. Since then, he has quickly become a distinguished voice on the instrument, redefining its role in music through an inventive technical approach and a discerning creative ear. In 2022, he was selected as a Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition jazz winner. In 2021, he won the Italy PAS jazz vibraphone competition, the largest vibraphone competition in the world. He has also won several Downbeat Magazine student awards and placed second in the junior open division at the 2018 M-Prize International Chamber Arts Competition.
