Overview

Following a screening of RENT, the film version of the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning rock musical, acclaimed actor Taye Diggs discusses the roles that defined his career. 

During the moderated interview, Taye will discuss how he has continued to explore new territories in his career, from the original Broadway production of Rent, one of his breakthrough performances to Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, in which he was the first black actor cast in the title role. 

Taye Diggs is an award-winning actor known for his TV, Broadway, and film roles. Diggs is also known for his role in the hit FOX drama, Empire, as Angelo Dubois. Prior to Empire, Diggs starred in three season's of TNT's Murder in the First. For his role in the series, Diggs earned a nomination for a 2014 NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series. His film credits include How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Brown Sugar, The Best Man, and The Best Man Holiday

An acclaimed stage actor, Diggs most recently starred as the title role in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch (he was the first African American to play Hedwig in New York). His theatre credits include A Soldier's Play, Wicked, Chicago, The Wild Party, Rent, and Carousel

Taye Diggs is also the author of five children's books including Mixed Me, Chocolate Me, and Why? Diggs is currently partnered with the National Head Start Association as their Child Literacy Ambassador and has visited DC with the organization. 

RENT is the 2005 film version of the Award winning rock muiscal with music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson about Bohemians in the East Village of New York City struggling with life, love, and AIDS, and the impacts they have on America, directed by Chris Columbus.
