Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance, a leader in preparing students for careers as performers, educators, composers and researchers, performs its 20th annual concert at the Kimmel Cultural Campus.
The Temple University Symphony Orchestra, Studio Orchestra and Choirs, renowned for performances of both traditional and modern masterpieces, present works by Adolphus Hailstork, Billy Childs and Igor Stravinsky, under the baton of José Luis Domínguez and Paul Rardin. Hailstork's Done Made My Vow will feature the Symphony Orchestra and Choirs along with soprano Karen Slack, tenor Joshua Blue and narrator Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon. Childs's Labyrinth will make its world premiere by the Studio Orchestra and will feature Temple faculty members Terell Stafford on trumpet and Dick Oatts on saxophone. The Symphony Orchestra will close out the concert with Stravinsky's classic orchestral favorite, the 1919 version of his Firebird Suite.
At this concert, Boyer is pleased to honor Joslyn Ewart, with the 2023 Boyer College Tribute Award for her passionate support for the performing arts and enduring dedication to music education. Past recipients of the Boyer College Tribute Award include Ann Ziff, Carole Haas Gravagno, Kenneth Gamble, The Honorable Edward G. Rendell, Alan Abel, Vera Wilson, Bill McGlaughlin, Al and Gabrielle Rinaldi, the Theodore Presser Foundation, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Michael Greene, Luis Biava, Janet Yamron and Sonya Garfinkle and Susan V. Carson.
