KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

CRUEL INTENTIONS: THE 90S MUSICAL,

PARODY OF CULT CLASSIC FILM WITH LIVE THROWBACK HITS

MAY 29 – JUNE 2, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, April 4, 2019) – The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to present Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical in its Perelman Theater from Wednesday, May 29 through Sunday, June 2, 2019. The jukebox musical perfectly combines everything audiences love about the original film, including Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” with other throwback hits by iconic 90s artists like Boyz II Men, Christina Aguilera, REM, *NSYNC, and, of course, Britney Spears, performed live.

Cruel Intentions’ story of seduction and manipulation has intoxicated audiences since it was first released 20 years ago,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Prepare to be charmed all over again as this musical blends the classic cult film with 90s favorites for a theatrical experience that is a true throwback!”

Based on the French novel, Les Liasions Dangereuses, and the film starring Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillipe, and Sarah Michelle Geller, Cruel Intentions: The ’90s Musical pulls you into the manipulative world of Manhattan’s most dangerous liaisons – between Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil.

Seduced by revenge and fueled by passion, the two diabolically charming step-siblings place a bet on whether or not Sebastian can deflower their incoming headmaster’s daughter, Annette Hargrove. As the two set out to destroy the innocent girl—and anyone who gets in their way—they find themselves entangled in a web of secrets, temptation, and the cruelest game of all: love.

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Brit Floyd: Another Brick in the Wall 2019 (May 7, 2019, Merriam Theater), Polly Mope (May 9-11, 2019, SEI Innovation Studio), and The Illusionists – Live From Broadway (May 10-11, 2019, Merriam Theater).
