THE KIMMEL CENTER AND FINDING NEVERLAND BROADWAY TOUR PARTNER WITH TD BANK FOR CITYWIDE BOOK DRIVE
PROCEEDS BENEFIT PHILADELPHIA READS AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, October 30, 2017) –– The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts will be partnering with TD Bank for a city-wide book drive to benefit Philadelphia Reads, an organization that distributes books to the School District of Philadelphia. Finding Neverland makes its Philadelphia debut at the Academy of Music from November 21-November 26, and the book drive will be taking place across four Center City TD Bank locations from November 1-November 26.
The public is encouraged to participate in donating new or gently used books to benefit children of the Philadelphia Reads organization. Those who participate will receive a 10% discount ticket code for Finding Neverland’s Philadelphia run.
“Finding Neverland is based on a book about escaping into a world of make-believe,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Books awaken our imaginations and allow us to escape through the printed page, which is why the Kimmel Center is thrilled to partner with TD Bank and Philadelphia Reads to help children travel to their very own Neverland, hopefully fostering a love of books and reading along the way.”
Philadelphia Reads is an organization focused on raising a city of readers. Through their various programs, both in and out of the classroom, children are able to develop a passion for reading, build their literacy skills, and achieve reading proficiency by fourth grade. Additionally, Philadelphia Reads assists the School District of Philadelphia’s less fortunate schools by implementing programs such as Book Banks, Reading Olympics, and Power Partners.
Based on the Academy Award-winning Miramax motion picture by David Magee and the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan by Allan Knee, the story of Finding Neverland follows the relationship between playwright J.M. Barrie and the family that inspired Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up – one of the most beloved stories of all time. Finding Neverland is a timeless story about the power of imagination and spectacular proof that you never really have to grow up.
