FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, August 2, 2022) –– The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents the world-renowned icon, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Verizon Hall at 7:30 p.m.

His new lecture, An Astrophysicist Goes To The Movies – II, which derived from a set of thirty films and shows, including The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and The Lion King, offers an entertaining and enlightening review of all the science that our favorite movies got wrong, combined with some of the science they got right. An Astrophysicist Goes To The Movies II incorporates the latest blockbusters as well as some classics that you may not have known had any science in them at all.

“An academic and an artist, Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a recognizable ‘cool’ scientist, someone the public trusts to bring insightful commentary and a distinctive style to explanations,” said Frances Egler, senior director of programming and presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “This one-night-only event takes audiences into the mind of Tyson, and even gives superfans the opportunity to interact with him courtesy of a special VIP meet and greet post show.”

Dr. Tyson is an astrophysicist and the author of the best-selling Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, among other books. Dr. Tyson is also the host and co-founder of the Emmy nominated popular podcast, Star Talk –which combines science, humor, and pop culture – and the spinoff, Star Talk Sports Edition.
