PHILADELPHIA JAZZ ORGANIST AND COMPOSER

LUCAS BROWN COMES TO THE

KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS WITH SKYVIEWS,

A WORLD PREMIERE JAZZ PROJECT,

APRIL 28, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, February 28, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus is delighted to welcome Philadelphia jazz organist and composer Lucas Brown to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ SEI Innovation Studio on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. for SKYVIEWS by Lucas Brown, a world premiere jazz project. In this musical exploration of how we set our own rules, composer Lucas Brown wrestles with the demons we all face and finds out how to go beyond the limitations and boundaries of self-doubt.

“We love to showcase local artists on our Cultural Campus who are committed to growing Philadelphia as an arts mecca through diverse programs and new works,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “Brown’s talent transcends pure musicality to reach audiences on a more personal level. This world premiere event is the perfect addition to the Kimmel Center’s Jazz Appreciation Month offerings.”

RJ Johnson raves that Lucas Brown’s diverse style combines “the soulful feel of a classic organist such as Jimmy Smith with the advanced vocabulary of today's inquisitive improvising musicians.” A graduate of Temple University and Westminster Choir College, Lucas Brown excels in both Jazz and Classical Music, performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian Museum, the Jazz Standard, and the Blue Note.

He has performed with such Jazz artists as Pat Martino, Eric Alexander, Terell Stafford, Larry McKenna, Bootsie Barnes, Tim Warfield, and Gerald Veasley as well as with Opera Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Orchestra. As a member of the American Guild of Organists, Lucas has been on the programming team for the Kimmel Center’s annual Organ Day extravaganza and has performed for multiple years at Organ Day on the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ with a Jazz band.

In addition to Brown, the performance will feature Behn Gillece (vibraphone), Doug Hirlinger (drums), Sean Markey (guitar), Victor North (saxophone), Elliot Bild (trumpet), and Nick Lombardelli (trombone).

Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour (March 23, 2019, Verizon Hall), Jazz Orchestra of PhiladelphiaGet Organized (June 1, 2019, Verizon Hall), Dan Blacksberg/Rabbi Yosef Goldman World Premiere (June 6, 2019, SEI Innovation Studio), David Allen/Raquel Salas Rivera/Diane Monroe World Premiere (June 7, 2019, SEI Innovation Studio), and Dariel Peniazek/Maya Peniazek/Ariacne Trujillo World Premiere (June 8, 2019, SEI Innovation Studio).
