FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, December 19, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, in association AEG, presents the cast of award-winning science podcast, The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe, to thePerelman Theateron Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. Joined by host and musician, George Hrab, the cast of “skeptical rogues” will entertain with science and a skeptical extravaganza that will challenge the audience’s perception of reality.

 

“Our Kimmel Center Cultural Campus is a hub for diverse programming that both entertains and educates Philadelphia audiences,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “We love bringing podcasts and cult icons to life onstage with panel shows like this and others like the Tiny Meat Gang podcast, Paula Poundstone from NPR, and more.”

 

The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe is a weekly science podcast dedicated to promoting critical thinking and science literacy through insightful content and resources. Hosted by Dr. Steven Novella, the cast includes Cara Santa Maria, Jay Novella, Evan Bernstein, and Bob Novella. In their signature dryly-humorous style, the team explains the tenets of skeptical thinking and debunks some of the biggest scientific myths, fallacies, and conspiracy theories. Since beginning in 2005, the show has been one of the most popular science podcasts on iTunes with over 100 million downloads. Additionally, the team put out the USA TODAY bestseller, The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe: How to Know What’s Really Real in a World Full of Fake.

 

In addition to hosting The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe, Dr. Steven Novella is an academic neurologist at Yale University School of Medicine and president and co-founder of the New England Skeptical Society. He is also the author of NeuroLogica Blog, a contributor to Science-Based Medicine, and a regular columnist in the Skeptical Inquirer – The Science of Medicine. Novella is a fellow of the Committee of Skeptical Inquiry (CSI), a founding fellow of the Institute for Science in Medicine and a Senior Fellow for the James Randi Educational Foundation.

 

Dr. Steven Novella is joined by several co-hosts, who each bring a unique perspective to the conversation. Jay Novella is a skeptical activist and science popularizer. Additionally, he produces and hosts Alpha Quadrant 6, a science fiction review show. Cara Santa Maria is a Los Angeles Area Emmy® Award-winning journalist, science communicator, television personality, producer, and podcaster. Prior to her career in media, Santa Maria taught biology and psychology. Bob Novella is a co-founder and Vice-President of the New England Skeptical Society. He blogs for The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe’s Rogues Gallery. Evan Bernstein serves as the Connecticut chapter chairman of the New England Skeptical Society and co-hosts The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe 5×5 podcasts.
