KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS WHEEL OF FORTUNE LIVE! IN THE GAME SHOW’S FIRST THEATRICAL TOUR

OCTOBER 6, 2022

Audiences can spin the Wheel, solve puzzles, win prizes, and literally be part of the game itself

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 19, 2021) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus, in association with Premier Productions, presents Wheel of Fortune Live! at the Campus’ Academy of Music on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., as part of the iconic game show’s first ever live tour! This event will be hosted by Mark L. Walberg, longtime host of PBS’ Antiques Roadshow and Temptation Island.

The all-new live stage show, produced byRight Angle Entertainmentin partnership withSony Pictures Television and UTA, is the one-and-only way fans can experience America’s Game® in person outside of Sony Pictures Studios. Guests can audition to go on stage and feel like they stepped into the game show itself. They will have the chance to spin a replica of the iconic Wheel and solve the puzzles on the tour’s puzzle-board to win fantastic prizes including $10,000, a trip to Paris, Hawaii, and more at every show! Additionally, audience members will get in on the fun with the chance to be randomly selected to win cash and prizes.

Wheel of Fortune Live! brings all the luck and excitement of the iconic game show to Philadelphia, starting with contestants who will be randomly selected to participate (and potentially win big!) the day of the show,” said Frances Egler, Senior Director of Programming and Presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “This experience is one of many on our 22-23 season that gives audiences a unique theatrical experience inside their on-screen favorites, from Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson reviewing (and debunking) movie science, to Dirty Dancing in Concert and the Philadelphia Orchestra’s film series.”

The concept behind Wheel of Fortune originated from Merv Griffin who, in 1975, came up with the idea for a game show based on the simple word game “Hangman.” It ranks as the longest-running syndicated game show in the United States, gaining a worldwide following with 60 international adaptions. In 2013, TV Guide ranked Wheel of Fortune at #2 in its list of the 60 Greatest Game Shows Ever. The series’ 39th season premiered on September 13, 2021, and Pat Sajak became the longest-running host of any game show.

In December 1982, Vanna White was named hostess. She became highly popular among the young female demographic and gained a fanbase of adults who were interested in her daily wardrobe. The phenomenon has been referred to as “Vannamania.” Pat Sajak won three Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Game Show Host in 1993, 1997, and 1998. A Hall of Fame honoring Wheel of Fortune is part of the Sony Pictures Studios tour. Located in the show’s taping facility, it features memorabilia related to Wheel’s syndicated history, including retired props, classic merchandise, photographs, videos, and a special case dedicated to Vanna White’s wardrobe.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Cultural Campus include Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets: The Echoes Tour (September 23, 2022, Miller Theater); Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson: An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies – II (September 23, 2022, Verizon Hall);Daniel Howell: We’re All Doomed!
