Music is alive with Ensemble Arts Philly, in part due to our spectacular 2023-24 Jazz Series! Filled with powerful pieces, iconic pairings, and standout performers, this year’s line-up is one not to miss. So why settle for just one show? Starting off the series strong is Grammy Award-winning Samara Joy as she celebrates the holidays at the Miller Theater on December 22. Featuring The McLendon Family, vibe along to her unique interpretations of seasonal classics. With a refined and velvety voice cementing her as perhaps the first Gen-Z jazz singing star, Samara is here to start both our jazz and holiday season off right.

Philadelphia favorite Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra returns alongside iconic trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis to start 2024 off with a bang on January 21 in Verizon Hall. This concert is a Centennial Celebration of the innovative drummer and bandleader, Max Roach, who utilized music to address racial, political, and social issues of his time.

Denoted as “one of the finest piano players to emerge in decades”, the multifaceted Emmet Cohen comes to the Perelman Theater on March 14. With accolades from the international jazz community and beyond under his belt, Cohen’s fluid technique and innovative tonal palette makes him a vibrant solo performer. His passion and extensive repertoire will make this an unforgettable performance for all jazz lovers.

Two-time Oscar nominee and six-time Grammy winner trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard arrives with his groundbreaking opera Fire Shut Up in My Bones to Verizon Hall on April 7. Featuring works inspired by Charles M. Blow’s powerful memoir, Blanchard dives into the challenges and repressions Blow encountered during his early life in rural Louisiana, with lyrics by NAACP Image Award-winning actress, director, and screenwriter Kasi Lemmons.

Who doesn’t love a dynamic duo? Legendary trumpeter Herb Alpert and vocalist Lani Hall come together to complete their North American tour on May 18 at the Perelman Theater. Featuring an eclectic mix of American standards, Brazilian jazz, The Beatles, classic Tijuana Brass, and Brazil ’66 songs, this performance showcases why this duo is one for the ages.
