You are invited to “Carnival at The Kimmel Center,” a free dance party for the entire community!
Called “the Mardi Gras of the southern hemisphere,” Carnival is Brazil’s 180+ year tradition that takes place over the course of a week prior to Lent, including “live music, street performances, dancing, floats, costumes, food and beverages”.
Carnival at The Kimmel Center dances into Philly February 17th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. as part of a pre-show celebration for Balé Folclórico da Bahía, Brazil’s premier folkloric troupe of dancers, singers, and musicians, who perform a spectacular repertoire based upon “Bahían” folkloric dances of African origin.
Carnival is renowned for the gorgeous outfits and costumes worn by those celebrating like these from Buzzfeed’s list of “47 Gorgeous, Insanely colorful Costumes at Carnival”.
