Adams Dr. Atomic Symphony
Sibelius Violin Concerto
Ravel Suite No. 2 from Daphnis and Chloé

Full of pulsating strings and big brass sounds, John Adams’s brooding Dr. Atomic Symphony plumbs the depths of Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer’s conflicted soul as he created a weapon that could destroy the world. Audiences will be on the edge of their seats in this symphonic adaptation of the original opera, whose 2005 premiere the New York Times dubbed “the musical event of the year in America.”

Under the baton of guest conductor Roderick Cox, the Orchestra takes a masterful turn in Maurice Ravel’s colorful interpretation of the ancient Greek tale of Daphnis and Chloé. The Suite’s ingenious scoring evokes a brilliant sunrise and captures the dramatic reunion of the young lovers.

One of Jean Sibelius’s most popular works, his only violin concerto presents an ambitious glimpse into the soul of a troubled composer. GRAMMY®-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich stars as the Orchestra performs this intimate, emotional, and demanding work.
