Overview

For the first time, after many years of sellout performances on campus, the University of Notre Dame Men’s Glee Club and Symphony Orchestra will present their annual holiday program Christmas From Notre Dame on tour, with concerts in Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York City. The wide-ranging program will include selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite as well as other traditional and contemporary music for the season, singalong carols, and popular holiday favorites from the Great American Songbook. Don’t miss this unique and memorable family evening of musical cheer—the best holiday entertainment value in town!

The concert is a benefit for Feeding America, with all proceeds from a collection and merchandise sales to be directed to a local food bank.

The Notre Dame Glee Club celebrated its Centennial in the 2015-16 school year, welcoming over 500 alumni back to campus for a reunion celebration and performance. Each year the 60-voice chorus presents a wide-ranging repertory in several formal campus and tour concerts as well as in dozens of informal performances at University events. The Club’s membership is drawn from all courses of study at the university; their concert programs customarily include classical a cappella music for men’s chorus as well as folk songs, African-American spirituals, barbershop arrangements, and songs of Notre Dame.

The Club tours domestically twice each year, and internationally once every other year, most recently to Europe in the spring of 2023. Over the last quarter-century they have performed in 45 U.S. states and in 20 countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

The Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1930, presents symphonic masterworks from the 18th to the 21st centuries in four annual campus concerts and on tour. It has regularly joined with Opera ND, the Department of Film, Television, and Theater, and the Notre Dame Glee Club con certs and theatrical productions, and have performed throughout the U.S. as well as Europe and Central America. The Symphony has collaborated with such artists as Leon Fleisher, Dave Brubeck, Regina Carter, and Billy Childs; in 2006 they joined with the Grammy-winning Irish ensemble The Chieftains and special guest Elvis Costello in a sold-out St. Patrick’s Day concert in Carnegie Hall.

Director Daniel Stowe has been a member of the University of Notre Dame faculty since 1993. In addition to directing the Glee Club and Symphony Orchestra, he leads the Notre Dame Collegium Musicum, periodically directs opera and musical theater productions, and teaches music history, choral literature, and conducting.
