Yannick Nézet-Séguin ConductorCris Derksen CelloTony Siqi Yun Piano
Derksen Controlled BurnRachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2Sibelius Symphony No. 2 Philadelphia’s favorite conductor joins his hometown orchestra here in Philly for one night only! Hear Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Montreal’s Orchestre Métropolitain take on a program full of dazzling classics and new perspectives. Pianist Tony Siqi Yun returns to Philadelphia for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. His most recent collaboration with Yannick was noted for its “beautiful sound” which “Nézet-Séguin matched in style and spirit” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). Cris Derksen’s new composition, Controlled Burn, strives to bring electronic and classical music together while also centering the worldview of the indigenous Cree Nation. The concert concludes with Sibelius’s turbulent and triumphant Symphony No. 2. Many would connect the piece to the Finnish struggle for independence, even giving it the nickname “Symphony of Independence.”
Please note: The Philadelphia Orchestra does not perform on this concert.
