KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

THE EXTRAORDINARY CANADIAN BRASS WITH BRYN MAWR

ORGANIST JEFFREY BRILLHART

MARCH 9, 2022

“These are the men who put brass music on the map with their unbeatable blend of virtuosity, spontaneity and humor.”

- THE WASHINGTON POST

“After four decades, it’s great to see Canadian Brass—practically an institution at this point—still sounding fresh, still attracting young virtuosos and, above all, still having fun with the music.”

- NPR

“The Kings of Brass: After 42 years, the Canadian quintet still makes music that soars.”

- OTTAWA CITIZEN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (January 13, 2022) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents Canadian Brass with renowned organist Jeffrey Brillhart for their third collaboration in the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ Verizon Hall on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 8:00 p.m.

Canadian Brass is made up of five extraordinary talents: visionary founder, tuba legend, and business specialist Chuck Daellenbach, plus four top brass stars: Caleb Hudson and Christopher Coletti (trumpets), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone), and Jeff Nelson (horn). With an international reputation as one of the most popular brass ensembles today, Canadian Brass has truly earned the distinction of “the world’s most famous brass group.”

Performing with the group is Jeffrey Brillhart, the Director of Music and Fine Arts at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Brillhart was awarded the Elaine Brown Prize for Choral Excellence by the ACDA-PA. He has also performed a concerto performance with and is a regular guest conductor in Kimmel Resident Company, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. In 1994, Brillhart won first prize in the American Guild of Organists’ National Competition in Organ Improvisation.

“This performance will utilize the largest mechanical-action concert hall organ in the United States – the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ – at home in our Verizon Hall, showcasing the versatility of the ‘King of Instruments’” said Frances Egler, senior director of programming and presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “It is shows like this that make us a true home for diverse offerings that reflect our Philadelphia community’s interests – ones that range from rock to orchestral, Broadway to dance, organ to jazz, and so much more.”

Deeply committed to the health and safety of guests, artists, and staff and proudly certified by GBAC, the gold standard for infection prevention programs, the Kimmel Cultural Campus is requiring masks to be worn at all times for guests attending on-Campus events, as well as proof of vaccination for those over 5. Guests under 5 will be required to show a negative PCR test result or negative rapid test. Additional details below.

The hallmark of any Canadian Brass performance is entertainment, spontaneity, virtuosity, and, most of all, fun, but never at the expense of the music. Whatever the style, the music is central and performed with utmost dedication, skill, and excellence. Each of their concerts shows the full range, from trademark Baroque and Dixieland tunes to new compositions and arrangements created especially for them, from formal classical presentation to music served up with lively dialogue and theatrical effects. They have created a uniquely engaging stage presence and rapport with their loyal audiences.

With a discography of over 130 albums and an extensive world-wide touring schedule, Canadian Brass is an important pioneer in bringing brass music to mass audiences everywhere. They have sold well over 2 million albums worldwide, with 1.2 million sold in the Nielsen Sounds Scan era alone (since 1991). They have appeared on The Tonight Show, TODAY, and Entertainment Tonight and were the first brass ensemble to take the main stage at the infamous Carnegie Hall.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Cultural Campus include Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (March 24, 2022, Academy of Music) and Chanticleer with Organist Alan Morrison (April 13, 2022, Verizon Hall).
