KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS THE BRAND-NEW MUSICAL PARODY GROUP THE CAPITOL FOOLS, CREATED BY AND STARRING FORMER MEMBERS OF CAPITOL STEPS COMEDY TROUPE

TWO SHOWS – 2:00 PM AND 7:00 PM SATURDAY, MAY 20, 2023

Let’s welcome some reflection! Join us for the unveiling of the next political movement in comedy sweeping the country.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (April 4, 2023) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents comedy troupe, The Capitol Fools, at the Perelman Theater on the Kimmel Cultural Campus on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The Capitol Fools hold up a mirror to our crazy political culture, providing hilarious song parodies and foolish reflections that continue to inspire belly-laughter. Audiences will continue to see cast members from past seasons of the Capitol Steps performing all the beloved bits, the mind-boggling backward talking spoonerisms, break-neck costume changes, over-the-top impressions, and all-new song parodies reflecting the day’s news.

“No matter who runs the political stage, there is never a shortage of material for comedians to parody, just take it from long-running favorites like Saturday Night Live,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming & Presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “The Capitol Fools help wrap up our season of comedy with their foolish reflections, joining other comedic icons like Samantha Bee, Noel Miller, and Kevin James.”

The Capitol Steps was started in 1981 by some US Senate staffers in Illinois Senator Charles Percy’s office as a means to provide Christmas party entertainment and to rib the people that employed them. Soon, they were touring the nation chronicling the humor found in current events through clever song parodies. Struggling like many performing arts organizations during the coronavirus pandemic, the Capitol Steps shut down in 2021. After receiving the sad news, long-time Capitol Steps performer Jack Rowles; Steps co-writer Mark Eaton; and Michael Pauken, general manager of the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, Illinois worked together to set the stage for DC’s Reflecting Fools. The premiere performance took place in Skokie, Illinois, in April 2022.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Cultural Campus include Samantha Bee: Your Favorite Woman Tour (April 29, 2023, Miller Theater), Girls Gotta Eat: Snack City Tour (May 12, 2023, Miller Theater), Sasha Velour: The Big Reveal Live! (May 18, 2023, Perelman Theater) and Kevin James (June 16, 2023, Academy of Music).
