THE KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS

WELCOMES BACK WORLD-RENOWNED

ITALIAN COMPOSER & PIANIST

LUDOVICO EINAUDI FOR SEVEN DAYS WALKING TOUR

JUNE 1, 2019

“His creations are simply everywhere: Topping classical charts, underscoring TV and film, integrated into advertising, and remixed by commercial music’s biggest stars… you only need to hear a single phrase to recognize it as one of his entirely unique creations.” - Patrick Darby

"If you haven't heard the music of Ludovico Einaudi, then it's probably because you don't know it's by Ludovico Einaudi." – The Guardian

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, May 7, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus is delighted to welcome back the legendary Ludovico Einaudi for his Seven Days Walking Tour at the Merriam Theater on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. Hailed by critics and fans alike as evocative, seductive, and hauntingly beautiful, Einaudi has played piano on an Arctic glacier, performed at huge pop music festivals, and become the most-streamed classical artist in the world, but the composer and pianist's new album may be his most ambitious project yet.

“Ludovico Einaudi’s music transcends genre, synthesizing elements of electronica, classical, and rock,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “This unique show exemplifies our commitment to serving Philadelphia audiences with broad and diverse programming – there is something for everyone on the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, regardless of taste, age, gender, or race.”

Seven Days Walking Tour is comprised of 7 albums, released across a 7-month period. The collection is the impetus created by a series of walks Einaudi took in the Alps. It focuses on several main themes, which recur in different forms; seven variations following the same imaginary itinerary: "The idea first came to me as I was listening to the recordings of the first sessions: each version seemed to me to have its own personality, with subtleties so distinct from one another that I was unable to choose which I preferred," says Einaudi. "I associated everything with walking, with the experience of following the same routes over and over, discovering new details each time. And so in the end I decided to thread them all together in a sort of musical labyrinth, a little like stepping inside the twists and turns of the creative process, to understand how a musical idea can develop in multiple directions, and changing once again at the moment in which it is heard."

With over one million streams a day, the pianist has clocked up a staggering two billion streams, making him the biggest streamed classical artist of all time. The Guardian wrote, "If you haven't heard the music of Ludovico Einaudi, then it's probably because you don't know it's by Ludovico Einaudi." His original music has appeared in countless films like Russell Crowe's The Water Diviner and Xavier Dolan's Mommy, as well as the Doctor Zhivago television series and Natalie Portman’s Black Swan trailer. In 2016, Greenpeace filmed him performing his "Elegy for the Arctic" while floating in the Arctic Ocean as glaciers melt around him to raise awareness about climate change. He has even recognized Earth hour by conducting a concert with only candles, and was enlisted by the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing to create “Wetland” for a World Environment Day premiere.

Joining Ludovico Einaudi on tour will be Federico Mecozzi on violin and viola and Redi Hasa on cello.
