KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS, WRTI 90.1, AND

COMPOSER/CONDUCTOR JOHN CONAHAN PRESENT

FREE & INCLUSIVE SILENT NIGHT SING-IN

EVENT FOR INDIVIDUALS AND CHOIRS

MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, November 4, 2019) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus presents the second annual Silent Night Sing-In, a FREE event in the Kimmel Center’s Commonwealth Plaza on Monday, December 16, 2019. Singers and diverse ensembles from across the Greater Philadelphia region are invited to join together for the region’s largest “sing-in” of the holiday classics "Silent Night" and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Philadelphia composer/conductor John Conahan will be onsite to lead singers in new arrangements of these beloved melodies that are easy to learn for any musical skill level.

“We are thrilled to once again present Silent Night Sing-In, alongside other FREE & community-minded holiday programming like our annual Tuba Christmas concerts with 100+ musicians, and the brand new five-concert series Gospel on the Plaza,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “All of these events take place in our Commonwealth Plaza, a public space intended for community gatherings & shared connectivity. While we are thrilled to activate this space throughout the holiday season, we also share FREE programs with Philadelphians all season long, from Latin music & dance, to family-friendly musical theater & jazz lessons, and more.”

WRTI 90.1 FM Classical Host Gregg Whiteside will join the event as emcee, sharing his thoughts on the significance of these well-known melodies and kicking off the performance. A positive space for singers to join together in song, the Silent Night Sing-In began in 2018 as a way to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the time-honored “Silent Night” holiday carol and is a celebration of the connectivity of music and the Philadelphia community.

“This is what we mean when we talk about community,” says WRTI 90.1’s Gregg Whiteside. "It's the power of music to uplift us all, to bring us together in song, to create a joyous experience."

“The goal is to provide a warm and comfortable space for singers of all backgrounds to connect and be a part of something positive. It’s a celebration of the connectivity of music in our beloved city,” says composer/conductor John Conahan.

This event is FREE and registration is encouraged, but not required. Singers of all levels are invited to participate. Registration, sheet music, and voice-part learning files can be found online at www.silentnightphilly.com .
