THE PHILADELPHIA HOLIDAY TRADITION A SOULFUL CHRISTMAS HONORS LADY TRAMAINE HAWKINS ON THE KIMMEL CENTER’S CULTURAL CAMPUS DECEMBER 12

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, October 18, 2017) –– American gospel singer Lady Tramaine Hawkins will be honored at the Philadelphia holiday tradition, A Soulful Christmas, in Verizon Hall on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. This uplifting event returns for its fifth year with a communal gathering of regional choristers performing holiday spiritual, gospel and classic favorites. This year’s performancewillalso feature special guest, Marvin Mills, on the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ.

“Sharing this heartfelt evening with the Philadelphia community is one of my favorite moments of the season,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “This tradition perfectly embodies the holiday spirit, bringing communities together as one to celebrate and reflect through music and the spoken word.”

Lady Tramaine Hawkins was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1999. Her lead vocals on such classics as Changed, Going Up Yonder, Holy One, and The Potter’s House are absolutely incomparable. Audiences will be invited to sing along with some of these iconic songs during the concert.

“Lady Tramaine Hawkins is going to fill our souls with some of her soul-stirring hits and the joyous sounds of Christmas,” said Artistic and Music Director J. Donald Dumpson. He will lead hundreds of singers during the spectacular finale of lights. “A Soulful Christmas is a one of a kind program where clergy and musicians from many denominations unite on one stage for one purpose— to tell the Christmas Story through the spoken word and song!”

There will also be performers from the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale Youth Choir, Philadelphia A.M.E. Mass Choir, Citywide Praise Dance Collaborative, Deliverance Evangelistic Church Mass Choir, Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church Mass Choir, Mount Carmel Baptist Church Combined Choir, New Covenant Church of Philadelphia Mass Choir, the Philadelphia Catholic Gospel Choir, and Philadelphia Heritage Chorale will lend their voices to create the mesmerizing sounds of A Soulful Christmas.
