KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

AWARD-WINNING ACTOR, PRODUCER & WRITER, CARY ELWES, FOR

THE PRINCESS BRIDE:

AN INCONCEIVABLE EVENING WITH CARY ELWES

NOVEMBER 13, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 14, 2021) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents The Princess Bride: An Inconceivable Evening with Cary Elwes at the Kimmel Cultural Campus’Merriam Theater stage on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 8:00 p.m.

In this highly anticipated event, fans of The Princess Bride will join Cary Elwes (Westley) in a behind-the-scenes look at life on and off the set of the iconic film. After a screening of the film, Elwes will engage in a moderated discussion on classic scenes, revealing never before shared secrets and tales of inconceivable antics. Journey back to the lands of Florin and Guilder in an adventure filled with fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, miracles, and of course, true love.

“We know that Philadelphia audiences love behind-the-scenes events with their favorite artists, so they won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear directly from actor Cary Elwes as he provides an up-close-and-personal journey through The Princess Bride,” said Matías Tarnopolsky, president and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra and soon-to-be president and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. “Cary will answer questions about this beloved and timeless cult classic, providing a perfect preview for the February concert where The Philadelphia Orchestra will perform the score live with the film.”

The Princess Bride is a fairy tale (allegedly a rediscovered classic by one S. Morgenstern), featuring the long-thwarted love between Princess Buttercup and her childhood sweetheart Westley, plus the Cliffs of Insanity, Rodents of Unusual Size, and one Spaniard’s search for the man who killed his father. The film was released on September 25, 1987, but took fourteen years to make it to the big screen. It is now a cult classic and holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cary Elwes was cast as Westley, a stable boy turned swashbuckler, in Rob Reiner’s fantasy-comedy The Princess Bride, based on the novel by screenwriter William Goldman (Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men). He is now known for playing Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Men In Tights; the movies Liar Liar, Twister, and Saw; and most recently appearing as Larry Kline, Mayor of Hawkins, in the third season of Stranger Things.

Elwes made his first television appearance in 1996 as David Lookner on Seinfeld. Two years later he played astronaut Michael Collins in the Golden Globe award-winning HBO mini-series From the Earth to the Moon.

Elwes was nominated for a Golden Satellite Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his portrayal of Colonel James Burton in The Pentagon Wars. He received another Golden Satellite Award nomination for his work on the ensemble NBC Television movie, Uprising, opposite Jon Voight. Elwes also had a recurring role in the final season (from 2001 to 2002) of Chris Carter’s hit series The X-Files as FBI Assistant Director Brad Follmer.

Now Elwes is hitting the road to share with fans the personal stories behind the making of this piece of cinematic history.
