KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS IMPROV COMEDY TROUPE, THE SECOND CITY, WITH THEIR BRAND-NEW EXPERIENCE

THE SECOND CITY SWIPES RIGHT: AN INCOMPLETE GUIDE TO  THE ULTIMATE DATE NIGHT

MARCH 10 – 11, 2023

"Second City is often likened variously to a comedy factory, farm team, finishing school or 'Harvard of humor'." - The New York Times

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (January 23, 2022) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents improvisational comedy enterprise and oldest ongoing improvisational theater troupe, The Second City, with their brand-new experience, The Second City Swipes Right: An Incomplete Guide to The Ultimate Date Night, at the Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center building on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 8:00 p.m and Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Spend a naughty 90 minutes with a caliente cast of comedians as they (consensually) annihilate everything that turns us on – and off – about love, dating, relationships, and everything else in-between the sheets!

“Think of any comedy legend in modern entertainment and chances are they have ties to The Second City,” said Frances Egler, Senior Director of Programming and Presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “This cast of comedians are among the best-of-the-best, equipped with material and natural timing to create a laugh-out-loud show before your eyes.”

Rooted in the groundbreaking improvisational games of Viola Spolin, The Second City opened its doors on a snowy Chicago night in December of 1959, and a comedy revolution began. The small cabaret theater has grown to become the most influential and prolific comedy empire in the world, developing an entirely unique way of creating art and fostering generation after generation of superstars.

Co-founded by Spolin’s son, Paul Sills, along with Howard Alk and Bernie Sahlins, The Second City was experimental and unconventional in its approach to both theater and comedy. Almost immediately, alumni of The Second City, including Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Fred Willard, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, and John Belushi, launched the theater into the international spotlight.

Today, The Second City is home to a world-class entertainment company, continuing to produce premier talent in all three of its locations (Chicago, Toronto, and Hollywood) and entertaining more than one million audience members a year. From Steve Carell to Keegan-Michael Key, Stephen Colbert to Tina Fey, Chris Farley to Mike Myers, The Second City’s imprint is all over film, television, and beyond. The list of alumni goes on and on, with Bill Murray, Eugene Levi, Martin Short, Jason Sudeikis, Catherine O’Hara, Amy Sedaris, Bonnie Hunt, and more.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Cultural Campus include DRUMLine Live (February 17, 2023, Miller Theater), Heather McMahan: The Comeback Tour (February 18, 2023, Academy of Music), Jay Shetty World Tour: Love Rules (February 21, 2023, Academy of Music), Karlous Miller: At the End of the Day...
