With 3 venues, 9 performance spaces, and over 1 million visitors a year, the Kimmel Cultural Campus can get, well….dusty. Just like your own home, our Cultural Campus undergoes regular cleanings as part of a larger preventative maintenance schedule by our Operations Team to keep our home looking clean and safe for our staff, audiences, and Philadelphia community. This type of large-scale cleaning is performed on a regular basis (usually between our season during the summer), but often goes unseen by the public.
Repelling from the ceiling, setting up scaffolding over the seats, and even bringing in a full-sized lift (!), our Operations spares no space in our venues unclean! Work over the past few months has included dusting the exterior of Verizon Hall, cleaning the ceiling of the Merriam Theater, painting the proscenium of the Academy of Music, and even lowering our grand Academy chandelier to hand-wipe every single crystal.
See below for an inside look in how we keep the 2nd largest performing arts center in the country clean!
Note that some of these photos were taken before the Cultural Campus re-implemented an indoor mask policy. We will always put the safety of our patrons, artists, and staff first. Learn more about our Safe & Clean Commitment.
