KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

GRAMMY NOMINATED & INTERNATIONAL JAZZ SENSATION

LAURIN TALESE

FEBRUARY 19, 2022

“Laurin Talese has a voice like Christmas morning.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer

“Some of the most luxuriant, sumptuously phrased jazz vocals you could hope to hear.”

Chicago Tribune

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (January 13, 2022) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents the sensational Laurin Talese in its Perelman Theater on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. Talese will be performing music from her upcoming release, Museum of Living Stories, commissioned by Chamber Music America.

“It’s such a pleasure to welcome Laurin Talese back to our stages. She is a dear friend of our organization and is a dynamic performer who has joined us in the Perelman Theater and with The Philadelphia Orchestra on several occasions,” said Matías Tarnopolsky, president and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. “It is a great joy and privilege to witness Laurin’s artistic trajectory on our stages.”

Deeply committed to the health and safety of guests, artists, and staff and proudly certified by GBAC, the gold standard for infection prevention programs, the Kimmel Cultural Campus is requiring masks to be worn at all times, as well as proof of vaccination for those over 5. Guests under 5 will be required to show a negative PCR test result or negative rapid test. Additional details below.

After studying classical and jazz at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, Talese received her bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. On top of her studies, Talese is a natural-born talent who is not just a singer who has performed across the globe, but also a passionate songwriter. She serves on the board of Jazz Philadelphia, as well as the Recording Academy’s Philadelphia chapter, where she was recently appointed Vice President.

Her debut album, Gorgeous Chaos, was released in March 2016 and was met with critical acclaim, listed among the top 10 jazz albums in the Chicago Tribune. The album features a stellar lineup of musicians and was produced by and features in-demand music directors/producers Adam Blackstone and the Grammy® Award-winning drummer Ulysses Owen Jr., who she then partnered with to create her album An Invitation. The list of international renowned venues in which she has performed includes the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., the Apollo Theater in New York, and the Academy of Music on the Kimmel Cultural Campus.

In 2019, Talese represented the United States as a cultural ambassador with American Music Abroad, following in the footsteps of former Ambassadors Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, and Dave Brubeck. American Music Abroad is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and implemented by the Association of American Voices.

Other performances in the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ 21-22 Jazz Series include Arnetta Johnson (March 19, 2022, Perelman Theater), Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (March 24, 2022, Academy of Music), Diana Krall (April 8, 2022, Academy of Music), Jazz in the Key of Ellison (April 14, 2022, Verizon Hall), Dianne Reeves (April 21, 2022, Merriam Theater), and Bria Skonberg (June 12, 2022, Perelman Theater).
