AMBIGUOUS DANCE COMPANY WILL EXPLORE INDIVIDUAL RHYTHM AND THE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN THE WORLD PREMIERE OF MY ORGAN MY SEOUL DURING THE PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS JUNE 3, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, April 30, 2018) – Direct from South Korea, K-pop Artists Kim Bo-Ram and Jang Kyeong-min and the Ambiguous Dance Company will visit the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ Verizon Hall on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m., to dazzle audiences with a witty exploration of individual rhythm and freedom of expression in the world premiere of My Organ My Seoul. Together with organist Ahreum Han on the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ, Bo-Ram and Kyeong-min weave together a smart and charming physical harmony through the universal language of dance. The Kimmel Center commissioned this work and it’s a highlight of the 2018 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA).
“The Ambiguous Dance Company embraces movement through contemporary choreography that complements the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ in a one-of-a-kind performance,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “I’m so excited that this dance company will add its unique talent and diverse, artistic expression to PIFA 2018.”
The Ambiguous Dance Company, founded in 2008 by Kim Bo-Ram and dancer Jang Kyeng-min, is known for its undefinable characteristics in terms of styles, aesthetics genres, and preconceptions. The group believes that the bodily expression of music and dance form the most accurate and truest language. Rather than focusing on delivering an artistic message or meaning, they express themselves through what is in their hearts - bodily movement and music. Every human is born with a rhythm that is all one’s own.
Other featured upcoming performances at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus include: Sing Hallelujah (May 1, 2018, Verizon Hall), Cristal Palace (June 1-10, 2018, Schuylkill River), Doggie Hamlet (June 3-4, 2018, Belmont Plateau), Tape Riot (June 5-8, 2018, Locations revealed only to ticket buyers), and Bring it! LIVE (July 14, 2018, Merriam Theater).
