THE KIMMEL CENTER CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS

COMEDIC GENIUS PAULA POUNDSTONE

IN A HILARIOUS ONE-WOMAN STAND-UP SHOW

MARCH 7, 2020

“You know that she is a great comic, the way you know any fine performer when you see one – there’s a disarming ease in her craft, an immediate sense that she’s so quick on her feet you need never worry about the possibility of something going wrong”

–        The Boston Globe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, PA, February 11, 2020) – The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus presents the return of humorist, author, and comedian Paula Poundstone at the Merriam Theater on March 7, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. Known for her observational humor and spontaneous wit, while being recognized as one of “Greatest Stand-ups of All Time” by Comedy Central, Poundstone is one of the preeminent comedians in the country. Never one to do the same act twice, her impromptu interactions with the crowd will have them roaring with laughter.

“Paula Poundstone is a true pioneer in the field of comedy, and a perfect addition to our Women’s History Month lineup. Throughout her career, she has broken down walls for women in comedy, making history with her impromptu style, impeccable timing, and unapologetic point of view,” said Anne Ewers, President and CEO of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. “She joins a March lineup of other powerhouse female artists, from Broadway diva Kristin Chenoweth, to Grammy nominated Jazzmeia Horn, to Egyptologist and National Geographic explorer, Kara Cooney.”

Poundstone’s comedic stylings are not limited only to the stage; her comedy spans across an array of entertainment mediums.  She is a panelist on the NPR weekly comedy news show Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me! , where she contributes regularly. Host Peter Sagal of Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me! says, “Paula Poundstone is the funniest human being I have ever known. Everything she does, thinks or says is hilarious. She is made of funny. If you chopped her into bits, each piece would be hilarious. (But don’t). Air becomes funny having been breathed by her.”

Poundstone is also the host of the weekly podcast Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone, where she shares her comedic field guide to life with her audience. Her stand-up credits are endless and include Cats, Cops and Stuff; Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard;and Look What the Cat Dragged In. Poundstone won a CableACE Award for Cats, Cops and Stuff, making her the first woman to win the ACE for “Best Standup Comedy Special.” She went on to another first with her second HBO stand-up special, Paula Poundstone Goes to Harvard, taped on campus in Sanders Theatre, marking the first time the elite university allowed its name to be used in the title of a television show.

Along with stand-up, Poundstone can be recognized for her work on the big and small screen. She served as the voice of “Forgetter Paula” in Academy Award® winning film Inside Out. Poundstone has made numerous television appearances including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Late Show with David Letterman.

Poundstone is the author of two books, and her latest release titled The Totally Unscientific Study of the Search for Human Happiness debuted at #1 on the Amazon Bestsellers List in Humor in 2017.

Paula also received the honor of hosting the White House Correspondents dinner, where she was the first woman in 72 years to share the stage with the President.
