- The Washington Post

"One of the world's most elegant live bands." - The Times (UK)

"[Pink Martini] delivers a knowing sophistication backed by skillful arrangements...Ms. Forbes is an unpretentious, pitch-perfect chanteuse who can be breathy and girlish or sultry...she tempers heartbreak with savoir-faire." - The New York Times

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 19, 2022) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents, in association with BRE Presents, the eclectic melodies of Pink Martini and The Philadelphia Orchestra Featuring China Forbes at the Campus’ Verizon Hall on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. A self-described “little orchestra” with a big impact, Pink Martini’s astounding musical journey spans over the past two decades. Performing alongside is The Grammy-winning Philadelphia Orchestra; one of the world’s preeminent orchestras, it strives to share the transformative power of music with the widest possible audience, and to create joy, connection, and excitement through music in the Philadelphia region, across the country, and around the world.

“It's a thrill for The Philadelphia Orchestra to collaborate with Pink Martini as part of our Jazz Series,” said Matías Tarnopolsky, president and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. “This genre-blending performance brings together two world-class visionary ensembles in a rare, exciting collaboration.'

Cultivating inspiration from musical genres from all over the world,Pink Martini creates an inclusive and welcoming sound that is strictly their own. With the goal to bridge the gaps between a myriad of audience members through the power of a common love of music, the rich jazz-based pieces of Pink Martini mark an exceptional touch to the distinguished Jazz series lineup. The concert event features Pink Martini’sown twelve musicians, group head Thomas Lauderdale, and lead singer China Forbes.

Bandleader Thomas Lauderdale has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Oregon Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, Portland Youth Philharmonic, Chamber Music Northwest and several collaborations with Oregon Ballet Theatre. Currently, he serves on the boards of the Oregon Symphony, Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Oregon Historical Society, Confluence Project with Maya Lin and the Derek Rieth Foundation.

China Forbes’ contribution to the band expands beyond her staple vocals, as her song writing for hits like Sympathique, Let’s Never Stop Falling in Love and more have become integral to Pink Martini’s repertoire. Beyond that, the singer has performed in places like Carnegie Hall to Red Rocks, the Hollywood Bowl to Paris’s l’Olympia and Sydney Opera House with a multitude of other talented artists. She has two solo albums.

Featuring a dozen musicians, with a repertoire that includes songs in 25 languages, Pink Martini performs on concert stages on six continents. After making its European debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 and its orchestral debut with the Oregon Symphony in 1998, the band has gone on to play with more than 50 orchestras around the world, including multiple engagements with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Boston Pops, the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, the San Francisco Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall in London. In 2014, Pink Martini was inducted into both the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. The band has performed globally at some of the most prestigious venues in the world; plus been featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, to name just a few;and sold over 3 million album copies.

Pink Martini has released 11 studio albums on its own independent label, Heinz Records (named after Lauderdale’s dog), selling more than 3 million albums worldwide. In 2019, the band released two EPs featuring the vocals of Pink Martini’s newest members Jimmie Herrod and Edna Vazquez. Both vocalists have toured with the band for the past year and are officially part of the group with the release of Herrod’s EP Tomorrow and Vaquez’ Besame Mucho, both of which were co-produced by Thomas Lauderdale and China Forbes.

Recently, The Philadelphia Orchestra triumphantly returned home from its critically acclaimed European Tour, closing with a performance in memory of Queen Elizabeth II in London. The Orchestra’s 2022-23 season begins September 28 with a nearly sold-out performance headlined by internationally renowned pianist Lang Lang and featuring BalletX, choreographed by Tiler Peck.
