KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS TIME-TWISTING MUSICAL COLLECTIVE POSTMODERN JUKEBOX: A VERY POSTMODERN CHRISTMAS

DECEMBER 10, 2022

"...the super talented ensemble of contemporary-meets-vintage sounds known as Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox continues to entertain and enthrall audiences at every stop." - Broadway World

“Go see Postmodern Jukebox. Stop whatever you’re doing, right now, and go see them!" – MusicInsight.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 27, 2022) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox: A Very Postmodern Christmas, a vintage style holiday celebration, at the Miller Theater (formerly the Merriam Theater) on the Campus on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. A Very Postmodern Christmas features Postmodern Jukebox’s (PMJ’s) rotating retro collective of show-stopping vocalists, dancers, and instrumentalists as they mash up timeless holiday classics and today’s pop hits in the “vintage” styles of 20s hot jazz, doo wop, and Motown that have brought the group international acclaim.

Postmodern Jukebox reinvents new songs as old songs, taking the hits of yesterday and today and reworking them into different vintage genres, especially swing and jazz. Known for musical mashups such as turning Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” into a Cab Calloway-like vamp or Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” into a tango, Postmodern Jukebox is a YouTube sensation and a popular live music act, having played concerts all over the world, from Radio City Music Hall to Red Rocks to the Sydney Opera House. Their Christmas Show is sure to have you humming Christmas songs with a whole new beat.

“Known for their incredible ability to rework and uniquely remake songs, Postmodern Jukebox is a gift for music lovers – and the perfect gift for someone you love this holiday season,” said Frances Egler, Senior Director of Programming and Presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “This joyful event joins a full lineup of holiday programming – from films like The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert and Home Alone with The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Illusionists – Magic of the Holidays, and so much more.”

When New York City pianist Scott Bradlee created Postmodern Jukebox out of a basement in Queens in 2011, his goal was simple: to remake the pop hits of today into the classic sounds of the legends of yesterday. Miley Cyrus became The Platters. Bruno Mars became Frank Sinatra. The Spice Girls became The Andrews Sisters. Guns ’n’ Roses became Bessie Smith. PMJ has collaborated with dozens of talented musicians including, Casey Abrams (American Idol Season 10), Noah Guthrie (Glee), Haley Reinhart (American Idol Season 10), and Puddles Pity Party.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Cultural Campus include PHILADANCO! The Continuum – Now/New/Next (October 28 – 30, 2022, Perelman Theater), Jazzmeia Horn (October 28, 2022, Verizon Hall), “Weird Al” Yankovic: The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour (October 28, 2022, Miller Theater), Dirty Dancing In Concert (October 29, 2022, Academy of Music), Pink Martini and The Philadelphia Orchestra featuring China Forbes (November 3, 2022, Verizon Hall), ALOK (November 5, 2022, Perelman Theater), Preservation Hall Jazz Band (November 11, 2022, Miller Theater), The Illusionists – Magic of the Holidays (November 17, 2022, Academy of Music), Harry Connick, Jr. A Holiday Celebration (November 19, 2022, Academy of Music) and A Soulful Christmas (December 13, 2022, Verizon Hall).
