KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS POET, ARTIST, AND PERFORMER, RUPI KAUR, ON HER NEW WORLD TOUR
DECEMBER 8, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 27, 2022) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents, in partnership with AEG, the return of #1 New York Times bestselling author Rupi Kaur in her all-new World Tour, at the Miller Theater (formerly the Merriam Theater) on the Campus on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 8:00 p.m.

Rupi Kaur captivates with an all-new spoken word poetry experience, taking audiences on a journey of personal loss and love, growth, mental health, community, friendship, and strength. Performing new unpublished pieces, with the accompaniment of music and projections, Kaur reads work from home body, milk and honey, and the sun and her flowers.

Rupi Kaur is an Indian-born Canadian poet and performer. Her works have been at the forefront of a new genre of social media centered on short and easily accessible poetry – “Instapoetry.” Modeled from Gurmukhi script (also called Sikh script), her work is written exclusively in lowercase, using only the period as a form of punctuation. Kaur writes this way to honor her culture, saying she enjoys the equality of letters and that the style reflects her worldview.

“Rupi Kaur is one of the world’s leading young poets and also a sensational spoken word artist,” said Frances Egler, Senior Director of Programming and Presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “Using her platform as an author, performer, and illustrator, Kaur inspires us to take a step back and make sure we don’t forget to take care of ourselves. It’s such an honor for us to bring her World Tour to Philadelphia.”

As a then 21-year-old university student, Kaur wrote, illustrated, and self-published her first poetry collection, milk and honey. Next came its artistic sibling, the sun and her flowers. These collections have sold over 10 million copies and been translated into over 42 languages. Her most recent book, home body, debuted #1 on bestsellers lists across the world. Her work touches on love, loss, trauma, healing, femininity, and migration. In 2021, Kaur executive produced and starred in her debut film, Rupi Kaur Live, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Other featured upcoming performances on the Kimmel Cultural Campus include ALOK (November 5, 2022, Perelman Theater), Harry Connick, Jr. A Holiday Celebration (November 19, 2022, Academy of Music), Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox: A Very Postmodern Christmas (December 10, 2022, Miller Theater) and A Soulful Christmas (December 13, 2022, Verizon Hall).
